The Chapter sponsors conferences held in France and organizes seminars given by French or international lecturers invited from the industry or universities.

Over seventy lectures have been delivered in the Computer Science Laboratory LIP6 in the past four years, for the benefit of the French CIS community, Chapter members and other participants alike. Because the French Chapter is a distributed organization, several other lectures were held in Annecy .
Among the recently invited lecturers, we are proud to have had several IEEE CIS major representatives. As an example, the Chapter organized a workshop on Computational Intelligence, on December 16, 2008. On this occasion, Prof. Eyke Hüllermeier (University of Marburg, Germany), head of the IEEE CIS Task Force on Ma-chine Learning, held a seminar on “Methods for Label Ranking”. In the same workshop, Prof. Leszek Rutkowski (Technical University of Czestochowa, Poland), an IEEE Fellow and Chair of the CIS Distinguished Lecturers Program Committee gave a talk on “New Approaches to Neuro-Fuzzy Modelling”.
Another important event was the series of three lectures given by Pr. Marco Gori (University of Siena, Italy), former Chairman of the Italian CIS Chapter, IEEE Fellow and member of the IEEE CIS Data-Mining Technical Committee. The titles of his talks were: “Semi-supervised learning in huge graphs”, “Semantic-based regulariza-tions” and “WebCrow and the man-machine crossword challenge”, held between November 25 and December 12, 2008.
One of the major events organized in Annecy was the visit of Emeritus Prof. Michio Sugeno of Doshisha Uni-versity, Kyoto, Japan, who had received the IEEE Fuzzy Systems Pioneer Award in 2000. During his visit, Prof. Sugeno gave a talk entitled “Advances in Preference Theory”, on September 16, 2008.

Important members of the academic community in Computational Intelligence have also come to speak to our Chapter. Prof. Giulianella Coletti (Head of the Faculty of Computer Science, Universita di Perugia, Italy) pre-sented a talk entitled “Fuzzy set theory and coherent conditional probability: some bridges” on November 20, 2008.
Prof. Andrew McCallum (University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA) gave a lecture on “Joint Inference in Information Extraction and Social Network Analysis” on July 11, 2009.
Prof. Louis Wehenkel (University of Liège, Belgium) gave two lectures on ensembles of randomized trees enti-tled “Ensembles of extremely randomized trees and their links to kernel-based methods” (in French) on April 10, 2008 and “Ensembles of randomized trees and their application to image classification” on April 5, 2007.
Prof. Donna Hudson – then IEEE EMBS President and an IEEE Fellow – and Prof. Maurice Cohen, both from the University of California at San Francisco, USA, gave a joint talk on “Combining Evidence in Hybrid Medi-cal Decision Support Models” on April 3, 2008.
Prof. Anca Ralescu (University of Cincinnati, USA) presented a lecture on “Frequency based class representa-tion of fuzzy sets and its relation to Bayes classifiers”.
Prof. Andreas Nürnberger (Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, Germany) introduced his work on “Per-sonalized Interaction with Multimedia Data Collections” on March 3, 2008.
An overview of emotional computing was presented by Prof. Christine Lisetti (University Park, Miami, USA) on June 25, 2007.
